During a recent conversation with a friend and mentor of mine I was somewhat distracted about a family matter and was doing the usual blaming of myself for the situation. He reminded me that the Bible reminds us as fathers that we have a responsibility to provide our children with four things: Love, Discipline, Roots, and Wings. In the days to follow I was continually reminded of those words and began to feel the same is true for leading our organization. When building a company with Christian values and a family foundation the same responsibilities are true.
As leaders, we must always show how much we care. To love our people as we love our families is to be committed and expressive of our devotion to their success as a company family member and our earnest and sincere effort to the growth of them as individuals. When the people who work with you know how much you care, the people who work with you will care how much you know.
We must create an environment that is safe and harmonious with discipline by educating them to do what is right. From the way we treat others to providing an exceptional service and quality product; it is our duty to make the effort to develop the winning edge. Small differences in our performance can lead to large differences in our results. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. As Brian Tracy said, “The future belongs to the competent. It belongs to those who are very, very good at what they do. It does not belong to the well meaning.”
A foundation of strength, integrity, honor, spirituality, and generosity provides the roots on which we will continue to build in the days ahead. In our continuation in strengthening these personal and professional attributes the quality of the individuals will provide the strong foundation in which we build our families and our company while providing the products and services we render to our customers. Some will have a stronger hold than others but the end results will be exceptional individuals.
Providing the care, resources and a strong foundation in proceeding forward through the years, opportunities will come and go. The individuals which have absorbed all these characteristics to their fullest will be the ones who take the wings in pursuit of our futures and the futures of the ones to follow.
Charting a course which our team mates, and for that matter our families, see, feel and believe in, provides an opportunity for each to take charge of his or her own destiny. Some will fly far and some will stay close, but in order for them to continue in the building of relationships they must be able to push us all to and through the future by utilizing these resources.

Concrete Group-Round Rock Premium Outlets
FTWOODS Construction is very proud of the professional job the Concrete Group completed on the Round Rock Premium Outlets. We came together as a team to accomplish a difficult project. Our Concrete Group was able to finish this project along with all of the other projects that were going on simultaneously. While performing what the competition said was impossible to accomplish, the men of the Concrete Group with the help of the general contracting and site development groups not only teamed up in the most difficult stages of the Outlets, they also have had men and supervision on twenty-eight other jobs. Because of all the hard work of our men the project was finished ahead of schedule and on budget. Our Concrete Group made the impossible possible and they illustrated great teamwork. Thank you everyone who helped with this project, especially our Concrete Group: Cole Bonnett, Don Jones, Frank Lockhart, Saul Perez, Daniel Wesley, Logan Sill, Mark Bartlett, Bradley Haas, Richie Land, Crispin Soto, Mark Frost, Greg Graham, Zeb Robinson, and many others. You are what makes this company so great.
Working Together
FTWOODS Construction would like to feature the First Baptist Church and Creedmoor Elementary School projects where our Site Development Group did an exceptional job with the help of our two other groups, General Contracting and Concrete.
The Site Development group was the first group to hit the job running. There was a great deal of coordinating effort going on, beginning in the estimating and project management department. Mike Chaney and Frank Rodriguez did a wonderful job coordinating and scheduling both of these projects. After the initial scope and scheduling was performed our field guys took the ball and ran! David Boyce heads up our survey department and utilizes state of the art GPS survey system for both speed and accuracy. David has proven to be a wonderful addition to our Site Development Group by providing accurate layout and control in the field. Don Rodgers then directed both the dirt department and utility department to actually perform the work. Don relies heavily on both Chano Carrillo (Excavation) and Reymundo Hernandez's (Utilities) skills and knowledge as our site superintendents to direct the crews in the field. Constant coordination and communication with our own groups within the FTWOODS Construction family made both of these projects a great success for our clients!

Oscar Zamarron has joined the FTWOODS Construction team as our new Safety Director. Oscar worked seven years for Acme Brick Co. as a Safety Coordinator for multiple sites before joining our team. He attended Texas State Technical College and majored in Occupational Safety and Health. He is taking night courses and will soon finish up a BS in Industrial Safety. In Oscar’s spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, and working in the shop. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Mariana, and son, Dylan.
We are pleased to have Claire Parks join the FTWOODS Construction team. Before joining us she had her own business as an educational consultant assisting children with learning difficulties. She received a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communication from the University of Texas at Austin and obtained elementary and secondary teacher certifications with a specialization in reading through UT Austin. In her spare time Claire enjoys hiking, gardening, biking, reading, and writing. Claire also enjoys spending time with her husband, Steve, and children, Davis and Ellen.
Radel Fillip is one of our newest additions to FTWOODS Construction as our Resource Manager. Radel has about thirty years experience in the construction industry. He was President of Fillip Construction prior to joining our team. Radel enjoys spending time with his family, attending his church, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Jackie, and their three kids, Ryan, Keaton, and Reen’e.
Texas Mission of Mercy
Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM), a program of the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation, will hold its third annual event at the Dell Diamond on November 10-11.

Through TMOM, many FTWOODS Construction employees and subcontractors will once more join friends in Williamson County in an effort to make dental care accessible to those who cannot afford it. TMOM’s goal in 2006 is to help provide dental care for 1,200 children and adults. Both money and in-kind donations are needed--as well as that which is most valuable--your time.

Your participation makes a difference. For more information, call Carol Woods at (512) 848-4271.
Congratulations to our Graduate!
Rachel Milovich, an FTWOODS Construction intern, graduated on Saturday, May 13, 2006 from Southwestern University. Rachel received a degree in Child Study and Language Development. She plans on teaching this fall. We wish her luck, and we will miss her!
Career Day at Ninth Grade Center
On Wednesday, March 22, FTWOODS Construction employees Lee Loving, Mary Dixon and Mandy Krause visited the Georgetown Ninth Grade Center to participate in Career Camp 2006. This annual event is intended to expose high school freshmen to the various career possibilities in their future.
The FTWOODS Construction Team had the opportunity to speak to a class of about 15-20 students. We spent 45 minutes discussing the different employment opportunities available to those interested in the construction industry. Each of us discussed our individual jobs and the experience and education that the position requires. The students asked great questions, and we enjoyed our time with them. We look forward to next year.
FTWOODS Construction Softball Team
The FTWOODS Construction Softball Team played in the Georgetown Recreation Softball League on Thursday nights this summer. The FTWOODS Bombers earned 1st place with a 5-3 record. The following guys contributed to the winning season: Alan Funk, Ross Schneider, Jason Young, Rick Schiller, Brad Hass, Troy Lee, Justin Caskey, Casey Clawson, Mike Chaney, Iain Sproull, Matt Holley, Reagan Woods, Richie Land, Mike Peralez, and Logan Sill. The team would like to thank Todd Woods for being their Number One Fan and Supporter.
Congratulations FTWOODS Bombers! We can’t wait until next year!

FTWOODS Construction once again has a baby girl to add to the family. Frank and Holly Lockhart had their second child on May 27, 2006. Their baby girl is named Addison Sloan Lockhart. She was 8 pounds 5 ounces and 21 inches long. We are excited about the growth of our extended family, and we are so happy that God blessed them with a healthy baby.
